Permanent Make-Up Training

To get AAM (American Academy of Micropigmentation) certified in NJ for permanent makeup (PMU), you must complete a 100-hour fundamentals course, do 15 supervised procedures (6 in class, 9 in apprenticeship), and pass the AAM board exam, fulfilling state requirements for legally practicing PMU in New Jersey. This process involves hands-on training in brows, eyeliner, and lips with approved instructors and obtaining insurance, leading to certification for state approval through local health departments.

Steps to AAM Certification in NJ:

  • Complete 100-Hour -Fundamentals Course: This includes skin anatomy, color theory, and hands-on training with 6 live model procedures (2 brows, 2 eyeliner, 2 lips).
  • Complete Apprenticeship: -Finish 9 additional supervised procedures (3 brows, 3 eyeliner, 3 lips), often at an extra cost.
  • Get Insurance: Obtain necessary insurance as required by the NJ Department of Health.
  • Pass AAM Board Exam: After training and procedures, take the online exam.
  • State Approval: Submit documents to your local health department for final establishment approval.
